Kaş Hellenistic Amphitheatre & Kaputaş Canyon Beach

Nestled where the craggy limestone spurs of the Taurus Mountains plummet directly into the sapphire waters of the Mediterranean, Kaş (ancient Antiphellos) is the bohemian heart of the Turquoise Coast. Bypassed by mass tourism development due to strict conservation laws, Kaş preserves a tranquil coastal village charm of whitewashed stone cottages draped in vibrant bougainvillea and historic Lycian rock tombs scattered organically among boutique cafes. At the western edge of town sits the 1st-century BC Hellenistic Amphitheater, miraculously preserved with 26 tiers of seats looking out across the sea toward the nearby Greek island of Meis. Just twenty minutes west along the serpentine coastal cliff road lies Kaputaş Beach, world-renowned as one of the Mediterranean's most stunning natural spectacles: a dramatic cleft where a deep mountain gorge meets a crescent of white sand and crystalline waters shimmering in luminous gradients of emerald and electric turquoise.

Sovereign Pro-Tips & Vantage Secrets

Verified Field Notes
NOTE #1
Curator Insight

Kaputaş Beach requires descending 187 steps down from the coastal highway cliff; the radiant milky-turquoise water is created by natural freshwater springs meeting the sea.

NOTE #2
Curator Insight

Sit on the top tier of Kaş’s Hellenistic Amphitheatre at sunset: it is the only ancient theatre in Anatolia engineered facing directly out toward the open sea and the Greek island of Meis (Kastellorizo).

NOTE #3
Curator Insight

Look for the 4th-century BC Lycian sarcophagus (King's Tomb) standing proudly at the head of Uzun Çarşı street beneath purple bougainvillea.
