Mount Nemrut Colossal Statues & Royal Tumulus
Erected in 62 BC as a royal funerary hierotheseion by King Antiochus I of Commagene, Mount Nemrut features east and west stone terraces lined with colossal 9-meter enthroned figures of Persian and Greek deities alongside guardian eagles and lions. Sunrise and sunset across these weathered sandstone heads is one of Anatolia's most dramatic sights.
