Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Rising in radiant white majesty at the entrance to Abu Dhabi Island, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a sovereign architectural masterpiece and a global monument to Islamic tolerance and cultural unity. Commissioned by the Founding Father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the sanctuary accommodates over 40,000 worshippers across its vast marble courtyards and prayer halls. Architects and master craftsmen from across the globe collaborated on its creation, incorporating materials from Italy, Greece, Germany, Morocco, India, and China. The mosque features 82 domes faced with pure white Macedonian marble, over 1,000 exterior columns adorned with inlaid mother-of-pearl and precious jasper stones, and four 107-meter-tall minarets blending Mamluk, Ottoman, and Fatimid motifs. Inside the main prayer hall hangs one of the world's largest crystal chandeliers—weighing 12 tons and ablaze with Swarovski crystals and 24-karat gold. Beneath it lies the world's largest hand-knotted carpet, covering 5,627 square meters. Outside, reflective pools mirror the colonnades, illuminated after dark by a unique lighting system that tracks the phases of the moon.
“One of the world's largest and most breathtaking mosques, showcasing 82 domes of pristine white marble, 24-karat gold chandeliers, and floral gemstone inlays.”
