Wadi Darbat Natural Lake & Cascading Waterfalls
Wadi Darbat is undoubtedly the crown jewel of nature tourism in the Dhofar region, located 40 kilometers east of Salalah near Taqah. Nestled between towering limestone escarpments, this lush river valley features a remarkable year-round freshwater lake spanning several kilometers. The valley floor is shaded by colossal, ancient sidr and wild fig trees draped in moss and lianas, creating an enchanting tropical woodland atmosphere. During the Khareef monsoon, excessive rainfall causes the lake to overflow, feeding a series of spectacular travertine rock terraces that culminate in a thunderous 100-meter-high waterfall plunging over the escarpment into the plains below. Flocks of white egrets, blue kingfishers, and gentle herds of camels freely wander along the lake banks. Visitors can rent motorized boats, kayaks, and pedal boats to explore the mirror-smooth lake against emerald mountain ridges.
