Hatta Heritage Village & Mountain Dam
Nestled high in the rugged Hajar Mountains 130 kilometers southeast of downtown Dubai, Hatta is a spectacular natural and cultural sanctuary. Blessed with cooler mountain air, dramatic rocky gorges, and natural freshwater springs, Hatta has been inhabited for over 3,000 years. The Hatta Heritage Village painstakingly preserves the ancient mountain way of life. Visitors can explore 30 restored buildings constructed from mountain rock, mud, and palm fronds (barasti), including the imposing 1896 Hatta Fort, traditional defense watchtowers, and a historic falaj irrigation system that channels mountain spring water to lush date palm plantations. A short drive away lies the breathtaking Hatta Dam, where jagged terracotta-colored peaks plunge steeply into brilliant turquoise waters. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and electric donut boats on the serene reservoir provide an unforgettable wilderness experience distinct from the coastal city.
