Khasab Fjords & Traditional Dhow Expeditions
Perched on the northern tip of the Arabian Peninsula guarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the Musandam Peninsula is celebrated worldwide as the 'Norway of Arabia'. Cut off from the rest of Oman by UAE territory, Musandam’s coastline features monumental limestone mountains plunging precipitously into the turquoise sea, creating an intricate labyrinth of deep sea fjords (khors), sea cliffs, and tiny isolated fishing hamlets accessible solely by boat. The capital town of Khasab is the departure point for iconic cruises aboard traditional Omani wooden dhows. Gliding into the tranquil waters of Khor Sham, passengers recline on Persian carpets and throw pillows while watching pods of wild humpback and bottlenose dolphins surge through the ship’s wake. The cliffs reveal prehistoric fossils embedded in limestone ledges, while isolated fishing villages like Nadifi and Qana cling precariously to narrow rock ledges beneath towering massifs.
“The breathtaking maritime gateway to Musandam, famed for spectacular limestone fjords, emerald fjords, and playful wild dolphin pods.”
