Royal Opera House Muscat
Commissioned by Sultan Qaboos bin Said and opened in 2011, the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) in Shati Al-Qurm is a dazzling testament to Oman's progressive engagement with global musical heritage. The exterior is clad in mineral-rich Omani desert limestone, echoing the fortified watchtowers and crenellated ramparts of traditional sultanate architecture, surrounded by manicured formal gardens. The interior showcases astonishing luxury: hand-carved Burmese teak ceilings inlaid with gold leaf, polished Italian marble, and intricate Islamic geometric friezes. The auditorium accommodates 1,100 guests and features the world's first interactive seatback multimedia display system, alongside a colossal mobile stage and a 4,542-pipe organ built by Johannes Klais Orgelbau. ROHM regularly hosts world-class opera ensembles, philharmonics, jazz legends, and traditional Arabic tarab masters.
“The premier venue for musical arts and culture in the Gulf, marrying classical Omani castle stonework with state-of-the-art concert acoustics.”
