Jebel Harim (Mountain of Women)
Soaring to an elevation of 2,087 meters (6,847 feet) above the Strait of Hormuz, Jebel Harim (translated poetically as 'Mountain of Women') is the highest summit in the Musandam Governorate. The mountain earned its evocative name during historical pirate raids, when local mountain women and children retreated up these near-impassable rocky heights to find safety while their men defended the coastal villages below. The 4WD ascent through the high desert plateau of Sayh reveals mind-boggling geological history: marine fossils, ammonites, and fossilized bivalve shells embedded in limestone rocks at altitudes exceeding 1,500 meters, proving these peaks once rested beneath prehistoric ocean floors. Along the mountain track, ancient petroglyphs etched into boulders depict warriors, ibex, and camels dating back over 3,000 years. The viewpoint near the summit offers an awe-inspiring aerial vista spanning the fjords of both the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Gulf.
“The highest summit in the Musandam Peninsula at 2,087 meters, featuring prehistoric marine fossils, ancient petroglyphs, and sweeping aerial canyon views.”
