Wadi Tiwi (Gorge of Nine Villages)
Directly neighboring Wadi Shab along the coastal plain, Wadi Tiwi offers a markedly greener, wilder, and more dramatic canyon experience. Known locally as the 'Gorge of the Nine Villages', the wadi winds 36 kilometers deep into the eastern Hajar mountains, linking nine traditional agrarian hamlets connected by narrow cliff-hanging roads and rushing falaj channels. The wadi bed is flanked by sheer vertical limestone cliffs rising hundreds of meters overhead, shading a dense carpet of banana plantations, mango groves, and date palms. At the deepest accessible settlement of Mibam, adventurers find traditional stone houses clinging to rocky bluffs and a hidden canyon trailhead leading down to crystal-clear emerald swimming pools fed by a thunderous mountain cascade.
