Wadi Al-Disah Sandstone Canyon Oasis (Tabuk)
Carved deep into the mountain ranges of Tabuk Province in northwestern Saudi Arabia, Wadi Al-Disah ('Valley of the Palm Trees') is an astonishing natural canyon landscape. Rising four hundred meters vertically above the valley floor, towering red sandstone columns and dramatic rock needles flank a canyon bed nurtured by natural freshwater springs that flow continuously through the desert sands. Dense groves of wild date palms, fragrant basil, mint, and tall reeds carpet the valley floor, creating a vivid color contrast between emerald greenery, golden sands, and crimson rock cliffs. Ancient Nabataean tombs and Dadanitic inscriptions chiseled into the cliff walls testify to the canyon's historic role as an oasis haven along ancient caravan routes. Navigating the wadi bed in a 4WD vehicle, hikers can stop to picnic beside crystal pools of spring water, listening to the desert winds whisper through the towering stone pinnacles. It remains one of the most sublime and pristine natural wonders in the Arabian Peninsula.
