Uzungöl Alpine Lake & Soğanlı Mountains (Trabzon)
Resting at an elevation of 1,090 meters in a deep mountain valley 99 kilometers southeast of Trabzon, Uzungöl (meaning 'Long Lake') is the undisputed jewel of nature tourism in the Turkish Black Sea region. The lake was formed centuries ago when a massive landslide naturally dammed the Haldizen river valley between towering limestone crags, creating a peaceful, crystal-clear alpine freshwater sanctuary. The postcard landscape is defined by the white twin-minaret mosque standing elegantly on the lake’s shore, mirrored in the still mountain waters against an amphitheater of dense, mist-shrouded spruce and fir forests. Surrounding the lake are traditional wooden Swiss-style chalets and stone-walled highland pastures. Higher up the mountain trails, travelers encounter traditional yayla seasonal settlements where highland villagers sustain centuries-old pastoral ways of life, churning fresh butter and grazing cattle on wildflower meadows.
“A world-renowned emerald mountain lake nestled at 1,090 meters in the Pontic Alps, framed by dense spruce forests, misty peaks, and wooden chalets.”
