Jebel Akhdar (The Green Mountain)
Part of the central Al Hajar mountain range soaring over 2,000 meters above sea level, Jebel Akhdar (The Green Mountain) is renowned for its temperate Mediterranean microclimate, which remains up to 15 degrees Celsius cooler than the coastal plains year-round. This unique climate nurtures dramatic agricultural terraces etched into dizzying cliff faces, sustained by ancient falaj gravity-fed water channels. In spring, the terraces blush with fragrant pink Damask roses, harvested at dawn and distilled into sovereign Omani rosewater using centuries-old wood-fired clay ovens. In late summer, the terraced orchards yield world-famous pomegranates, walnuts, apricots, and wild figs. Luxury cliff-edge resorts perch directly above deep ravines, offering ultra-luxurious hospitality, stargazing observatories, and via ferrata adventures over sheer vertical drops.
“A spectacular high-altitude limestone massif at 2,000 meters above sea level, famed for stepped rose terraces, pomegranates, and dramatic canyon drops.”
