Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque of Muscat
Inaugurated in 2001 to commemorate thirty years of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos' reign, this gleaming white and sandstone sanctuary accommodates up to 20,000 worshippers. The main prayer hall features a single-piece 21-ton Persian carpet that took 600 weavers four years to create, beneath an extraordinary 14-meter chandelier adorned with 600,000 Swarovski crystals.
