Suwaidi Pearl Farm in Al Rams
Anchored in the serene mangrove lagoons of Al Rams—a traditional seafaring town in northern Ras Al Khaimah—the Suwaidi Pearl Farm is the only cultured pearl farm in the United Arab Emirates and the entire Arabian Gulf. Founded by Abdulla Al Suwaidi to honor his grandfather and preserve the nation's pearling legacy, the farm blends traditional knowledge with modern marine biology. The experience begins with a scenic ride aboard a traditional wooden dhow gliding through calm mangrove creeks where flamingos feed, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Hajar Mountains. Visitors arrive at a two-story floating wooden pontoon farm powered entirely by solar energy. Guides explain the arduous 7,000-year history of Arabian free-diving, the specialized tools like sheep-horn nose clips (fittan) and tortoise-shell oyster knives, and the intricate science of pearl nucleation. Guests can witness an oyster being freshly opened to reveal its luminous cultured pearl.
“The only active Arabian pearl culture farm in the world, floating in the tranquil mangrove lagoons at the foot of the Hajar Mountains.”
