Al Zorah Nature Reserve & Mangroves
Covering over one million square meters along the northern coast of Ajman, the Al Zorah Nature Reserve is a breathtaking coastal wetland and a designated Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. The reserve encompasses pristine coastal lagoons, tidal mudflats, and a flourishing forest of indigenous Grey Mangroves (Avicennia marina) that thrive in the saline waters. Al Zorah is an ornithological paradise, serving as a critical sanctuary and feeding ground along global avian migration corridors. Over 102 distinct bird species inhabit or visit the reserve, most notably large resident flocks of Greater Flamingos that wade through the shallow lagoons. Visitors can also spot herons, egrets, osprey, and kingfishers. The best way to explore the sanctuary is via guided eco-kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding excursions that navigate the tranquil, labyrinthine tidal creeks without creating engine noise or disturbing the sensitive wildlife.
